A concerned daughter writes:

Addressing Candy, Dr. Phil says, "She says that you are really self-conscious. That you never smile, and that it's something that really changes the way you feel about yourself."

Candy agrees. "It bothers me every day," she says, telling Dr. Phil that she was in an abusive relationship for years.

Kate explains why she wanted to do something special for her mother. "My mom does all she can for us kids and never anything for herself. I think she really deserves this," she says emotionally. "All I want to do is see my mom happy. I want to see her smile."

"There's an organization that I think is just amazing. It's called Give Back a Smile. They heard your story and they wanted to help," Dr. Phil tells Candy. The group was established by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry to help survivors of domestic violence. Turning to Dr. Douglas Jungman, Dr. Phil says, "Tell me why your organization, and you in particular, are so passionate about giving back to people like this who have suffered so much."

"A smile that is not pleasing to one's eye can be incredibly debilitating to one's self esteem," Dr. Jungman explains. "We're going to do whatever's necessary to make not only a beautiful smile, but comfortable and healthy as well."

"What do you think?" Dr. Phil asks Candy.

"It's awesome," she replies with a smile.
